I have always been told that I could sing before I could talk, when I was a little girl. Though I definitely have been making up for that later on, I think music has always been a way of expressing my self, my state of mind and my feelings. Especially singing has for me been a way to express my self.
I am a danish girl, born in Copenhagen in 1989, and grew up in a little town near Horsens in Jutland with my parents and my big brother. Not a very musical family, but a family with a generel interest in listening to music.
In primary school music was my favorite subject. I started playing the piano and clarinet and played in a harmony orchestra for several years. When I was around 13 years old I wrote my first song which was not just a childish melody, but a real song with a form, melodies, chords and lyrics. After primary school I went to a creative school which you can choose to go to between primary school and high school and here I started playing music with other people and wrote a lot of songs. In highschool I had music as my main subject and found out how amazing music theory is. Already in my first year I was sure that I was going to university to study Musicology and get a bigger knowledge about music in generel. Music theory opened a whole new world for me, a fantastic universe of rules and analysis and I studied this, choir and music in generel at a free academy I went to before starting at the university. At the academy I also worked a lot on songwriting and performed some of my songs in different constellations.
At the university I began to play more again and discovered how funny I thought my choir classes were. I felt very natural being the leader and conductor and soon had my own choir. I also taught music at a performance house for teenagers and loved teaching. After studying my second subject, Danish Language and Literature, at the university one and a half year I went to a Music Seminar in Leuven, Belgium. Here I was reminded how close to my heart music is and began thinking about studying another master than the one I was half way through. I decided to apply for the Master of Music at the Royal Academy of Music in Aalborg, Denmark. In the process of making my application I found out how much I wanted it and was very relieved and happy, when I was accepted.
While I was finishing my second subject I was offered a job as a highschool teacher. I taught music for one and a half year and had a great time being a teacher with all that comes with it as fx fantastic colleagues, dedicated students (some more than others), examinations and so on.
In 2015 I started studying the Master of Music with Vocal Music and Choir Conducting as my main subjects. Beginning on this master has changed my life. It has completed my pedagogical skills, given me so many amazing experiences and throughout the last one and a half year I have developed my self as a musician in a lot of ways.
After finishing my master with a master thesis about Concert Design I was accepted at the Soloist Programme, a postgraduate diploma, where I am now studying Innovative Choir Conducting.
